It can be easy to read the latest headlines and come away thinking the Australian property market is all doom and gloom. Interest rate rises, taxation changes and broader economic uncertainty have certainly shifted conditions, but as this week’s articles show, the full picture is more nuanced.
Despite the disruption, values remain higher than a year ago in most Australian suburbs, while Perth finished 2025–26 with record median house and unit prices and strong results across both the sales and rental markets. There is even some hope on the horizon for mortgage holders. Conditions are changing, but they are not changing equally everywhere. This is a timely reminder of how important it is to look beyond the headlines and consider the data, the local market and the longer-term perspective.

Seller of house in Cockburn Central, WA
"Wow what a team are Shelley and Mark!
They did a fantastic job of preparing our house in Ridge Road, Jandakot for sale in record time. We had total faith in all their advice during this time. This is the second house in the last eighteen months that we have entrusted them to sell and we would not go with anyone else.
Many, many thanks".
