The annual rate of inflation remained steady in February, at 3.4 per cent.
It means the monthly consumer price index (CPI) indicator has been 3.4 per cent for three months in a row.
Economists say inflation seems to be heading in the right direction, but given the patchy nature of the monthly inflation data it's too early to know if inflation is trending down at a pace the Reserve Bank expects.

Two major Aussie cities record population growth surge
|
|
Both Melbourne and Sydney have recorded a population growth surge, according to fresh data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
The largest increase was seen in Melbourne, which surged by 167,500 people in 2022-23, with the suburb of Rockbank in the state's west seeing the largest growth.
Sydney added 146,700 residents, followed by Perth with 81,300 and finally Brisbane with 81,200.
