Mulled wine is a common sight across Europe. It’s red wine with spices and fruit. While the ingredients do vary in each country, they are all hot, spicy and sweet - with the added benefit of fending off a cold.
Many countries also have a version of a hearty thick soup or stew. Goulash in Hungary is made with tender beef, vegetables and paprika. Locro in Argentina is corn and bean-based soup.
Finally a common sight is “cooking as you eat” dishes. Known as Shabu Shabu in Japan and Hotpot/Steamboat in China, this popular dish has been adapted in many forms across Asia. Cheese fondues or raclettes are common in Switzerland and France. Patrons fill up with melted cheese on side dishes such as potatoes, bread and meat.
