Finalists for the Archibald Prize is now on display at the Art Gallery of NSW until 28 August. This year’s prize received 816 entries with 52 selected. All worth the time to see!
The Archibald prize is Australia’s most prestigious art prize for portraits. The exhibition draws a large crowd every year because of the interesting people in the paintings captured in different styles. They include self-portraits, celebrities, politicians and some unsung heroes.
The winner of this year’s prize was an Aboriginal artist Blak Douglas with his portrait of a fellow artist, Karla Dickens. My personal favourite is of movie director Taika Waititi, which has the effects of a 3D picture.
